Yanaka Bito

It is my great pleasure to make an exhibition with my nagaya neighbor, Yukihko-san.
     I have spent over 1/4 of my life painting Yanaka in sumi ink.  This is my first time for me to sketch Yanaka Beauties.
    Leonardo de Vinci collected ugly and grotesque faces.  When he met a particularly ugly or grotesque person he followed that person through the streets of Florence until he had memorized the face.  He would then go home and draw it.
      I realized I have been doing the same with beauties.
